KIRK TO SCOTTIE - BEAM US DOWN TO COCHISE COUNTY.

Star Trek - Ship's Log - Captain Kirk and a landing party from the Starship Enterprise find themselves suddenly, and unexpectedly, walking down a street reminiscent of the Old West. As they wander down the boardwalk, Kirk and crew encounter a man wearing a sheriff's badge. The man turns out to be Cochise County Sheriff Johnny Behan. The date is October 26th, 1881. Kirk and his party find themselves trapped in an alternative reality in which they have become the Clantons and Mclaurys. As the day progresses, they come to realize that they are fated to face off against the Earp brothers and Doc Holliday at the O. K. Corral. That was the premise of the third season episode of Star Trek entitled Spectre of the Gun. The reclusive Melcotians, a race the Enterprise has been attempting to contact have re-created Old West Tombstone in order to submit the ship's landing party to a test designed to measure their penchant for violence. When Kirk and his officers are confronted by the Earps, and by their own ingrained capacity for violence, they manage, through the aid of a Vulcan Mind Meld, to convince themselves that all that they see, hear and feel is unreal. When the Earps and Doc Holliday open fire, Kirk and crew refuse to fire back. The bullets pass harmlessly through their bodies. They have passed the test. Instantly, they find themselves back on board their starship. The Melcotians communicate to the Enterprise that they are now ready to extend the hand of friendship.
